Statue of Little Obama standing in Jakarta


Statue of United States President Barack Obama as the 10-year-old was inaugurated in a park in Jakarta. The inauguration coincided with the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway.

President Obama spent his childhood during the four years in Jakarta with his mother and American stepfather from Indonesia. A bronze statue of two meters that show President Obama when he was 10 years old.

In the statue, Obama was wearing shorts and a T-shirt that reflects her as a child. The statue was to use images when Barack Obama used while living in Indonesia.

Symbols of hope

The idea of building a statue which cost around U.S. $ 10,000 came from groups in Indonesia, which calls itself Friends of Obama.

"He was just four years as a child, but we know that four years may be formed him," Dalton said Tanaka, a member of Friends of Obama.

"None of the President of the United States living abroad during that time. The period had shaped him," he said.

The statue shows Obama holding a butterfly on her left hand as a symbol of hope and inspiration for the children of Indonesia.

Obama attended in Jakarta between the years 1967 - 1971 and is now a hero figure for many young Indonesian children.

Many students attend the school to witness the inauguration of the statue.

"I feel proud as an Indonesian citizen and I also feel happy," said Dominica, sixth grade students.

"He lived here as a child and she was very loved in Indonesia, he's one important person right now," he continued.

Indonesia was the leader of Citizens United is one of them and would welcome him in a planned visit next year.
