Sri Mulyani Moving Into The World Bank

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono approved the appointment of the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati as Operations Director of the World Bank.

"I agreed after hearing the petition also Ibu Sri Mulyani Indrawati to have served as a Managing Director at the World Bank that," the President said while giving a press conference at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (05/05/2010). The President was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Hatta Rajasa, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, and Minister / State Secretary Sudi Silalahi.

However, Presidential approval is followed by one condition, namely that Sri Mulyani completing all tasks and affairs as Finance Minister in the country. "There are still a few weeks before Ms. Sri Mulyani his new position at the World Bank in Washington DC," said the President also.

As previously reported, Sri Mulyani, would occupy his new position as of June 1, 2010.

Earlier, the President had explained the story about the appointment of Sri Mulyani in positions that are considered strategic and important President's. The president said, before a cabinet meeting in Tampak Siring, Bali, on 30 April, he had heard the news.

"I am waiting for an official request or a letter from the World Bank President Robert Zoellick to the position, role, and what assignments will be given to Mrs. Sri Mulyani Indrawati," said the President.

"After we held a meeting at the Tampak Siring, Bali, April 30th, I received a letter from the World Bank dated 25 April 2010, which explicitly include these intentions. Then after I learned, I consider it a strategic position, important, and respected," explained President.

At that time, the President followed up the letter by trying to speak directly with Zoellick. "My response is, I agree," the President said.

The President explained that these days he has received a resignation letter to Sri Mulyani also named as one of the best ministers in the cabinet lead. He also had expressed the hope that the presence of Sri Mulyani in international institutions can bring success for the World Bank.

The President revealed, with the election of Sri Mulyani organization's top position in the World Bank, Indonesia is losing one of its best ministers. However, the President hopes, Sri Mulyani also be able to strengthen the World Bank and World Bank can bridge the gap with developing countries, including Indonesia.

While the successor to the minister, he said, the new Finance Minister will also continue to run the government policies that promote macroeconomic and fiscal policy right. However, the President has not decided who will replace the position as Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
