Joplin, Missouri hit by deadly tornado (Videos)

Joplin, Missouri was hit by a massive tornado killing at least 116 people on Sunday. The twister which crushed cars like soda cans left a mile wide and six mile long path of destruction.

About 2000 buildings in Joplin, Missouri were reportedly damaged by the tornado, injuring an unknown number of people. Joplin’s main hospital had also been destroyed by the twister. Reports say the death toll may still climb up as search and rescue are being continued.

Authorities warn that the toll could rise as rescuers continue searching for victims. The twister destroyed homes, churches and businesses, damaging about 30 per cent of the city. The same storm system that produced the Joplin tornado spawned twisters along a broad swath of the Midwest, from Oklahoma to Wisconsin. At least one person was killed in Minneapolis.
