A couple days ago, we celebrated Independence Day. Unfortunately for most Americans, it was just July 4, a day to go to the lake or beach and watch fireworks and wear American flags in a fashion statement.

| They probably couldn't tell you what year the Declaration of Independence was signed despite the Patriotic look. |
Well, I want you to consider what led to the Revolution--the crimes the founding fathers accused King George of. There was the Stamp Act, the sugar tax, and other acts of tyranny that led to Thomas Jefferson putting his life on the line as the author of the Declaration of Independence, which lists the multiple acts against the colonies.
Yet, when you add up the total taxation of the colonies and varied from one percent in the northern colonies to 2.5% in the southern colonies. Consider that little tidbit with what you are paying in taxes today, and people like Obama are saying you need to pay more. King George's crimes were far less than what the federal government is getting away with today. Perhaps that's why they don't really teach history in school today.
Further consider the taxes placed on the colonies compared to the taxes placed on the people who lived on King George's island.
In 2008, Alvin Rabushka's book Taxation in Colonial America (Princeton University Press). In a review published in the Business History Review, the reviewer summarizes the book's findings.
"British tax burdens were ten or more times heavier than those in the colonies" (p. 867.)
In other words the commoners were paying about 10 percent. Next time you get your paycheck, do some math and figure out what King Obama is taking out of your check forced by the IRS's gun. Who is the real tyrant, King George of England or King Obama of America. I believe the answer is obvious.
