2013 NASCAR Cup Car to Appear More Like Showroom Car it's Modeled After

Remember the days of NASCAR when you took a beautiful Dodge Charger off the showroom and turned it into a stock car to race? Those were the days. Detroit poured money into research and development to get the smallest advantages, and cars like the Charger went through mid-year model changes all to give NASCAR teams a little push. You may remember the Dodge Charger 500, which was designed with the NASCAR track in mind.

Well for 2013, the Car of Tomorrow, which was quickly shelved after its launch in 2007, noting the wing is gone and the front scoops have disappeared, will take NASCAR into a new evolution--trying to make the cars on the track safe while also making them look more like their namesakes at the dealers.

Chevrolet has yet to announce which brand their cars will look like, while Dodge will try to make its car look more like a Charger. Toyota is expected to stick with a Camry. Ford just announced it was sticking with the Fusion.

An updated version of NASCAR’s new Sprint Cup car, which was introduced in 2007, is being planned for 2013 and is being designed to feature more manufacturer identity.

This should be good for Detroit considering some of that win on Sunday buy on Monday marketing has been lost in the faceless templates of modern stock cars whose only similar appearance comes from stickers on the front and the back of the car that simulate the grill and lights.
