As Your Tax Deductions are Taken Away, Grover Norquist Tries to Save Face

Norquist

Grover Norquist is another self-proclaimed conservative who has obviously forgotten what it means to be conservative. His defense of what appears to be shaping up as a compromise to pass the debt ceiling is insulting to taxpayers.

If you were following along yesterday, I outlined where the Gang of Six were coming up with the $1 trillion in new revenue without ever officially raising taxes. They are doing it by eliminating deductions like the home mortgage deduction.

Now Norquist has gone on record simply stating, " “Not continuing a tax cut is not technically a tax increase.”

However, that wasn't the Republican argument late last year when the Bush tax cuts were about to expire. See the hypocrisy?

Norquist obviously is the brains behind Americans for Tax Reform pledge, a pledge many Republicans running for Congress signed. Now that Norquist knows Republicans are about to compromise and Americans are going to pay more taxes after this debt ceiling deal is done, Norquist appears to be squirming, playing the typical political word games.

Don't fall for it.
