Every Fourth of July, I observe something sad. It's the same thing I observe during Christmas. We forget the reason for the season. The sad thing is some people don't even know the reason for the season.
For the Fourth of July, I think the problem runs deep. We have bureaucratic despots and tyrannical leaders that almost seem to make King George look saintly, and there is a reason for this. America has become ignorant to what freedom and liberty really is. They could care less about those old guys from colonial America who put their lives on the line to deliver two of the most important documents in the history of the world--the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
Marist reports:
Only 58% of residents know that the United States declared its independence in 1776. 26% are unsure, and 16% mentioned another date.
There are age differences on this question. Younger Americans are the least likely to know the correct answer. Only 31% of adults younger than 30 say that 1776 is the year in which the United States broke away from Great Britain.
You mean it's not a day we get to celebrate Chinese fireworks factory workers? Who knew? Oh, but it gets worse.
A stunning 25% of those polled were clueless who the colonies fought the revolution against, which means tyranny like the Stamp Act, Rum Tax, Sugar Act of 1764, and other oppression against the colonies that inspired freedom and liberty means nothing as well to these uneducated dolts with punks lit in their hands.
None percent who couldn't answer Great Britain were college graduates. Good grief!
I am not surprised. This all comes from the public education system that thinks teaching American values is dangerous, so they are slowly converting to giving the United Nations more control over the schools in a curriculum pushed by Obama and funded by stimulus called the International Baccalaureate, which goes out of its way to teach America is bad.
It's only going to get worse, unless you sit down with your kids and explain the greatness of men like Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. This is the responsibility of parents now, because you can't count on the public schools.
