Billy Long's Co-Sponsorship of Bills Shows He's Helping Drive the Country Off the Cliff Too
On the House floor earlier this week, Billy Long attacked Barack Obama, deservingly so, as a big spender who is driving us off the cliff.
In life, one should be careful about throwing stones if you live in a glass house. Scanning through bills Billy Long has co-sponsored shows Congressman Long isn't as fed up with wasteful spending as he claimed he was during the campaign.
So let's look at some of the bills that Congressman Long has sponsored that shows he isn't ready to truly stop wasteful government spending.
H.R.2527 - National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act - Will require the Department of Treasury to hire an artist, produce a die, purchase raw materials to produce a special collector's coin to honor baseball. Shouldn't be a priority when we are $14.3 trillion in debt.
H.R.2453 - Mark Twain Commemorative Coin Act - Will require the Department of Treasury to hire an artist, produce a die, purchase raw materials to produce a special collector's coin to honor Mark Twain. More government waste.
H.R.1621 - Marine Corps Aviation Centennial Commemorative Coin Act - Will require the Department of Treasury to hire an artist, produce a die, purchase raw materials to produce a special collector's coin to honor this function of the Marine Corps. Again, these projects mean more federal paychecks that we can't afford.
H.R.1327 - Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act of 2011 - Amends the Internal Revenue Code to allow tax-exempt charitable or educational organizations to make collegiate housing and infrastructure improvement grants to certain tax-exempt social clubs (e.g., college fraternities and sororities) which apply such grants to their collegiate housing property.
H.R.721 - Short Line Railroad Rehabilitation and Investment Act of 2011 - Amends the Internal Revenue Code, with respect to the tax credit for railroad track maintenance, to:
(1) expand the types of maintenance expenditures eligible for such credit, and
(2) extend such credit through 2017.
H.R.607 - Broadband for First Responders Act of 2011 - More federal government control through confiscation of HAM radio frequencies in order to create a federal emergency broadband frequency that appears connected to the Internet kill switch.
H.R.495 - See Something, Say Something Act of 2011 - expanding the size of government through the Department of Homeland Security, which critics fear begins creating a citizen spy network. Expands the DHS presence by creating a broadcast network of DHS messages that will be seen through closed circuit monitors in places like Walmart.
Well that's quite a list that easily creates billions of dollars of new spending that didn't exist before Mr. Long got to Congress. Fed Up Billy's name is on each of these bills as a co-sponsor. In addition, Congressman Long has been careless with your money with the following votes:
HR1 - Congressman Long voted to continue spending tens of millions of dollars each year for federal sponsorship of NASCAR teams.
Pigford - Congressman Long voted to continue funding a fraudulent lawsuit against the USDA which class action attorneys play the race card. Michele Bachmann noted Pigford was an example of wasteful spending in Washington.
