While I don't feel the Republicans are going to end at the end of the day when it comes to the debt ceiling, I think something needs to be pointed out. Their argument is quite pathetic and will do little to prevent future debt ceiling increases if they actually pull off a victory through compromise. Here's where the problem lies with a Republican compromise, they aren't willing to cut spending enough.
It's the same thing over and over, whether it's the promised $100 billion in cuts in the Pledge for America or the meager cuts over ten years in the Paul Ryan plan. Republicans are afraid to make the necessary cuts. Take a look at the graphic if you don't believe me.
Obviously under the GOP's plan, the national debt rises $9 trillion over then next ten years no matter how good their cuts sound. That' needs to be balanced and then some.
