I just booked a room for the weekend in Chesterfield, Missouri, a swank suburb of St. Louis in an area affectionately known as West County. I was shocked when the price of my room saw a huge increase after booking. Take a look:
Not only are travelers getting raped in America by the TSA thugs at airports, local communities are cashing in by assaulting travelers with big taxes for hotels. The total taxes and fees added to the room account for nearly 24%. That's outrageous!
As the economy worsens, companies are going to look to do business in towns that are business friendly and don't charge exuberant taxes when they look for towns to conduct business and sales meetings, conventions, and other activities. Towns like Chesterfield which charge these high tax rates should beware this could work against them.
