George Washington grew it. Thomas Jefferson grew it. For some reason as the United States government discovered they couldn't easily tax it and the popularity of it grew in jazz clubs, marijuana was soon outlawed last century. What followed was an insane rhetorical campaign that took something that God put on this earth and labeled it the devil's weed.
While I am not a pot smoker, I do see how much the failed war on drugs has cost taxpayers and its obvious attacks our freedom. I also see Obama's coming war on drugs will be fueled by this failed drug war.
With that said, Ron Paul has introduced the end the war on marijuana bill. It has five co-sponsors:

Of course, yesterday, Obama said he has not intentions on ending the war on drugs.
"What we've always said is that investing in prevention, reducing demand is going to be the most cost-effective thing that we can do," he said. "We still need to interdict the big drug kingpins, and we still have to enforce our drug laws, but making sure that we're spending more on prevention and treatment can make a huge difference."
