Kayleigh Update: Recovering Nicely According to Dr. Tharp

Chillicothe, Ohio, has a great veterinarian in Dr. Thomas Tharp. Dr. Tharp took time out of his day to make a follow up call to check on my seven year old Labrador Retriever that was shot on Friday. That meant a lot to me, and it set up the day for more peace of mind in Kayleigh's recovery.

Dr. Tharp said he was concerned about a couple of things, one being her stool. He asked me about the color of her poop, which happened to be a dark brown. This concerned him, but I figured it was probably because of the anti-biotics. He wanted to make sure it wasn't blood.

So I took a sample into his office today. There was no evidence of blood. As well, both his staff and he quickly noticed the swelling in Kayleigh's abdomen was shrinking. Good news, good news!

I brought Kayleigh back home and let her rest. She fought with me when I tried to give her the amoxicillin she takes two times a day. This was the first time she was able to keep it down without throwing it up. Hopefully, her appetite will return tomorrow. She hasn't eaten since I brought her home, and Dr. Tharp has given her medicine to help her stomach and encourage her to eat.

The better news is her personality showed signs of coming back today too. While it's not 100%, there was a noticeable improvement.

Tonight, she sleeps peacefully. We have come a long way since I found her in the yard lifeless and near death. Thank God my best four legged friend is getting healthy.
