I have decided to adopt Maverick. Maverick is an energetic six-year old Labrador Retriever whose only flaw I could find is he has a little Mississippi Leg Hound in him.
I have made four visits to the no-kill shelter in the past two days. After sleeping on it, I narrowed it down to two dogs based on personality, energy, affection, and desire to spend time with me in a process that resembles the process of The Bachelor. We had time in close quarters, time outside, and leash time. While Valerie is a beautiful dog that I really have a great liking for, I feel it's Maverick who will be the most loyal friend.
I filled out the adoption papers and was approved, and some time in the next week, I will take Maverick home if it continues to be a good fit. I do think I will change the name. It reminds me too much of John McCain. ;)
How about Marley in honor of Josh Grogan's Labrador Retriever? I do feel like Maverick has a lot of Marley in him. Of course Kayleigh did too, but I don't think nearly as much.
