The International Baccalaureate has ties to the radical left wing pushing environmentalism and less national sovereignty through the United Nations. These are facts you can't deny. They are complicated and they don't directly affect parents at first to raise concerns. Parents hear better education and better prepared for college and they quickly jump on board without looking at the reality of what that means to their own core values. In other words, American parents are void of the critical thinking skills required for their children to receive a better education. They just aren't going to look under the fancy packaging sold by their school districts.
One thing that does quickly awaken parents is when their pocket books are thinner because wealth confiscation is taking place in the form of taxes to pay for these school board promises. That has been one of the key reasons parents are chasing the IB out of their local school districts. Sad I know, it really doesn't come down to core values in the end, but I am not surprised.
So we have this bit of information to inform anti-IB parents how to fight the school board and win by creating education that wakens parents up.
My Incline Village writes:
Focus on the five reasons most often stated by schools for dropping IB.
1) Cost
2) Lack of student improvement with IB
3) Less flexible than AP
4) Lack of participation in IB classes
5) Lack of college credit for IB
At least 20 schools drop IB in about a year. All of them name from one to all five of these reasons for dropping IB. Even though some people do not like the fact that IB is a United Nations sponsored programme, http://myinclinevillage.com/2010/07/16/even-jay-matthews-admits-colleges-give-more-credit-for-ap.aspx
districts never state this as a reason for dropping IB.
If you are fighting IB in your district focus on the five reasons above, NOT the UN.
Our District - It took almost two years to stop IB from being implemented. The battle divided our quiet affluent community on the north shore of Lake Tahoe.
