Republican Billy Long Has Become a Cheerleader of Big Government

Ironic. Less that six months after heading to Washington, the fed up Republican Billy Long has become a Twitter cheerleader for big government. Before we get into the details, let's here Billy remind you of what he was fed up with.

First before I get to far into this there are two things to point out. All government programs like the Great Society for example start out with the best intentions. Good intentions lead to government growth and more federal debt. This is a truth no matter how you justify it.

Now here is the reality as evidence in Billy Long's tweets:

AmericCorps may sound like a nice group of volunteers, but it really comes down to a federally subsidized charity, basically the ultimate group of community activists. AmericCorps is a U.S. federal government program that was created under President Bill Clinton by the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993[1] and later expanded by 50 percent under President George W. Bush.[2] The work done by these groups ranges from public education to environmental clean-up.[3] Why not go out of your way to recognize those who are volunteering who aren't doing so on a federal dime?

Everywhere you look in Joplin is FEMA. I recall Reagan's nine scariest words. "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." The truth is many Katrina victims now regret letting FEMA in their lives. FEMA also has great powers to declare Martial law. They may look friendly, but there is a lot to this bureaucracy that should scare the hell out of each and every American.

Big Sis? What's not to like about Big Sis as she removes the diapers of a 95 year old woman stricken with cancer and held to a wheel chair in the name of National Security. She has turned the TSA into America's version of the KGB at airports everywhere. "Your paper's please." Congressman Long has been silent about this form of big, abusive, intrusive part of the federal government. In fact, Long has sponsored legislation to give Big Sis more power and expand the size of the federal government in doing so. Just look up the "If You See Something Say Something Act."

Do you really think Big Sis has a heart this big Billy? Did you see her pawn John Pistole at the TSA justified the TSA's actions against the 95 year old woman?

Day after the Joplin tornado hit, I read a comment in the New York times celebrating that Joplin was a place of strong people who wouldn't need the federal government to lift them up like those affected by Katrina. Back at the ranch, the Congressman in the white cowboy hat who was fed up with big government was now pushing big government and government dependence.

Issador from Boston, Massachusetts writes as news breaks of 1500 missing after Joplin tornado:

The American spirit has always been that we are there for each other. You won't hear the people of Missouri cry for government help, they are not the victims of socialism like the poor souls from Katrina. If the government or the the media wish to respect the people of Missouri then let them live their finest hour the way they have always lived in hard times, depending on each other.

Tulsa World writes of Fed Up with Washington Congressman Billy Long:

U.S. Rep. Billy Long of Missouri said his first priority when he arrived at dawn Monday was ensuring that Joplin received speedy assistance from the federal government.

“The deputy director of FEMA was here yesterday, the director is here today and the president will be here on Sunday. On a scale of one to 10, they’re at about a 12,” Long told the Tulsa World.

Billy you helped prove Issador from Boston, MA wrong, and then you joined Senator Blunt in pushing FEMA aid levels higher.

Most of these are unconstitutional bureaucracies that produce more central planning by the federal government. It is not the federal government's job to be in the business of housing and urban development. I am amazed at how much of your tax dollars was spent to bring these bloated bureaucrats to Washington to see the devastation. It shows how inefficient government is and how willing they are to spend lots of your money and ignore the modern tools that small businesses now us in the global economy to get the job done. Guess who is embracing everyone of them, the small business common sense Congressman, Billy Long, who was supposedly fed up with wasteful federal spending. Why couldn't one of these officials showed up, take video and pictures, and share them with the other bloated bureaucracies. Tourists!

Once again, why is the federal government in the central planning business of housing and urban development with no Constitutional authority? Long was anxious to obviously tweet about the anxious big government.
Obama, what can you say about Obama that hasn't already been heard. Well, going through Billy Long's tweets, it's obvious he nearly has a Twitter Obamagasm every time the ultimate big government president is near. From Superbowl picks to counting the minutes until touch down, Congressman Long has embraced our lefty president more times than not since getting to Washington, DC. Of course, if you caught his tweet the other day, the lure of endless food at the White House picnic scored a lot of points with Congressman Long.

Considering Obama has created the largest 2 year period of debt in this country, I would keep my distance if I were in Billy's boots.

It's not just Joplin where Long has embraced big government. He has done it in Taney County with the flooding, asking FEMA to match it's Joplin contribution.

It's Long's noticeable absence of comment and involvement as the USDA comes down on a Nixa family who made $200 in profit for selling bunny rabbits.

And of course, it's Long who also participated in the federal tyranny ready to come down on anyone who offers criticism (and perhaps gets in the way of Long earning millions of dollars in year residual income as he fails to report assets on his federal financial disclosures for assets he said he was being forced to sale upon taking his new job).

More details on Long and the assets:

Finally, Long, who ran on a no earmark pledge, quickly went to bat to fight for Drury University to receive an earmark they were promised.

Yes, it's true, as you can see from endless examples, the "fed up" Congressman has become a cheerleader for big government.
