USDA Rabbit Police and John Dollarhite: BBCW Broke it and Mark Steyn Filling in for Rush Limbaugh Continues to Push it

Mark Steyn filling in for Rush Limbaugh yesterday continued to tell the story of how the USDA rabbit police threaten to ruin the lives of a Nixa, Missouri, family. Of course, back in May, I broke the story and it has gone viral thanks to help from Bob McCarty.

It's too bad Mr. Steyn doesn't report the local politics and the radical animal rights ties to this story. Locally, Congressman Billy Long is MIA when it comes to helping one of his constituents whose Constitutional rights are being violated. While the US government is in violation of the interstate commerce clause, Mr. Dollarhite's due process rights aren't being granted and clearly when you are facing $4 million in fines for $200 in profits after selling some bunnies, you Eighth Amendment is being violated. Where's Billy?

I guess Mr. and Mrs. Dollarhite weren't seen on Mr. Long's list of political contributors.

As well, Senator Roy Blunt, who made some Tea Party promises like Billy Long proved once again he'd rather spit on the principles of the Tea Party that act like Tea Party. Blunt came out in support of big government over his fellow Missourian yesterday. Geez Roy, even Claire McCaskill got this one right.

As well, the person signing the letters to the Dollarhites from the USDA is one Sarah Conant. She happens to be an animal rights wacko and attorney. A quick google of this individual traces her back to the University of Virginia Law School, where she founded the Virginia Animal Law Society, which is affiliated with the Animal Legal Defense fund. When you check out the Animal Legal Defense Fund, particularly their blog, you will note that these folks are crusaders, determined not just to protect animals from cruelty, but to prevent them from being used as food.

In other words, there is a strong possibility that this is being driven by an animus against traditionally accepted animal husbandry and commerce. The vigilance and heavy-handed methods applied seem to bear this out. Their expressed purpose of trying to get the Dollarhites out of this business, with the threats they have made, seems to bear this out.

Oh yes, the politics of this story is very interesting and sad.
