Oh Snap! Marcus Bachmann Calls Gays "Barbarians"

Just when I think I've heard every single nasty slur or insult a conservative blowhard can come up with, tada! Here's another one! In a short clip, Michele Bachmann's husband Marcus came up out of her face and compared gays to savage barbarians that need to be taught to be civilized little people, lest they run amok and corrupt the children. Well I guess it's a step up from being possessed by/called a demon. Listen to this crap below.



If there's one thing that disgusts me more than an ignorant straight homophobe, it' a self-hating queen, and trust and believe this gal falls into the latter category. Most of us know firsthand how hard it can be to embrace your sexuality as something normal when everyone and everything around you is sending a message that is the exact opposite. But what I cannot tolerate is someone actively encouraging anti-gay sentiment and spouting vicious lies about LGBT people when they are clearly gay themselves. If you're not at the place where you're ready to wave your rainbow flag high, then so be it. But don't project your internalized homophobia onto the entire community and make life harder for the rest of us.

Because when you do get caught smoking crystal meth with that male prostitute, tapping your foot in an airport bathroom or tricking on young boys with church funds, you'll have no one to blame but your gay ole' self. Unless you have a legion of pathologically delusional followers that give you bundles of their personal income without a second thought (I see you Ms. Eddie girl!) and a fellow pimp to put your hoes in their place for having the audacity to think for themselves (sup Creflo!). In that case, let the fleecing continue! Somebody needs to out this girl. Stat!

The First Husband....

If the reality of Michele Bachmann becoming a GOP frontrunner for the 2012 election disturbs you and the thought of her becoming president is just too disturbing for you to fathom, this short video of Bachmann's hubby Marcus will provide some much needed levity. To sum it up, chile Ms. Marcus is a good gal! You can just feel the rainbows bursting out of the computer the minute he sashays across the screen. Ironic behavior for a man, who according to some, "ungays" people as part of his therapy. As one commenter on Boy Culture said, "Bachmann may become the first female POTUS but if this video is any indication, we will still have a First Lady." Watch below.

Random Thoughts.....

With summer heat about to shine down on our behinds (technically we're currently being swamped by spring heat, at least until June 21st--uh oh, that means four months left until our next scheduled demise!), I figured it'd be as good a time as any to fire off some random thoughts.

1) Not to sound smug, but at this point isn't President Obama's reelection pretty much guaranteed? Like a coworker of mine said the other day, the crop of Republican contenders for 2012 is as pitiful as the Democratic nominees in '04. But then again, in politics you never know.

2) Isn't it sad that Sarah Palin's followers are so enraptured enslaved by her "I'm just a regular soccer mom" charisma that they're actually changing facts about Paul Revere's ride on Wikipedia to match her botched up version?

3) Even though I told myself I wasn't going to get caught up in the madness, I watched the first two parts of Oprah's final show extravaganza. I mean Patti, Beyonce, Madonna, Stevie, Aretha...there was no way I couldn't at least take a glimpse at the whole spectacle!

4) Am I the only one who thinks we're witnessing the unraveling of Chris Brown? I mean the bleach job was cool, but the nude pics....the Good Morning America tantrum....the smiley face tattoo on his back? Seriously, can you name his new single/video or when he's going on tour? Don't worry I'll wait....

5) Aren't you amazed that no religious whackjobs have come out of the woodwork to blame any of this year's natural disasters (i.e Alabama/Missouri tornados, Japan's earthquake) on the gays?

6) Doesn't True Blood's fairy (which my BF says are actually trolls) story arc look like it's going to be hella exciting?

7) I'll read Sherri Shepherd (or as fellow blogger Toddy English calls her, Boopsie) for her often moronic views on sexuality and gender issues as good as the next gay, but she was spot on with talking about Eddie Long.


8) While we're talking about Sherrie, I wonder if she'll take the same hard line on Tracy Morgan, or will she just Whoopi out?

9) If you haven't seen Madea's Big Happy Family, DON'T (unless it's on a bootleg). I'm not a huge fan of Ms. Perry anyway, but this movies makes Why Did I Get Married  look like Mo Betta Blues! Using passages from the play verbatim, characters as flat as cardboard, black women who are portrayed as either eternally pissed off (with no explanation why) soft as a wet blanket (Loretta got so screwed with this one) or relentlessly ghetto, major secrets that are resolved in under a minute. Chile, just take my word for it!

10) Didn't Lady Gaga look suspiciously mid-90's Mariah-like in that three way SNL skit a few weeks back?



11) Isn't it a relief that gas prices have gone down a little bit?

12) Despite my cynicism, I'm hopeful that Whitney's decision to extend her stay in rehab will be the start of her real comeback (in life as well as in music). Call me naive, but I guess you never give up on your first diva.

13) And since we're on the subject of divas, have you seen the clip of Beyonce 'warming up' for her American Idol performance? I mean I knew Bey had a strong voice but dayum. Watch below.


14) I know I've already ranted and raved about it, but what pipe was Creflo "Po Pimp" Dollar smoking from when he defended his "brother in the Lord" Eddie Long? More importantly, what did they slip the congregation in the communion juice? I mean your head would have to be shoved up your small intestines to be able come out of your face that boldly.

15) Maybe Eddie and Crelfo could do a remake of Devin The Dude's "Use These Ho's?" Or maybe Jay-Z and DMX's "Money, Cash, Hoes?" Joel Osteen could chime in on the "Whats"!

Army Launches DADT Website

The U.S. Army has launched a website designed to deal with issues surrounding the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." The site's introduction reads like this:

"Since 1993, the law and policy known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) has provided that homosexual conduct is a bar to service in the Armed Forces. On Dec. 22, 2010, the DADT Repeal Act of 2010 became law. It provides for the repeal of DADT to be effective 60 days after the President, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff certify to Congress that the Armed Forces are prepared to implement repeal. The Army began educating Army personnel on the process and policies associated with the repeal of DADT on Feb. 17, 2011, in order to prepare the force for implementation. Until 60 days after certification, the law commonly known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" remains in effect, and the Department of Defense will continue to apply the law as it is obligated to do."

The site also includes a top 10 list of things to know about the repeal, such as soldiers will not be segregated and their sexual orientation will not be called into question, as well as a FAQ section that addresses such concerns like how conduct codes will change after the repeal.

Black And Latino NY Leaders Sign Letter Supporting Marriage Equality

More than 50 prominent black and latino leaders signed a letter in support of same-sex marriage. According to The Advocate, New Yorkers United For Marriage, a bipartisan coalition of five LGBT organizations, is workign with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to the pass the marriage equality bill withing the next month. The organization also released an open letter to officials and community leaders.

“What we learned from the civil rights movement to end racial discrimination informs our fight to end other discrimination based on who you are. It is a bedrock American value that all are created equal. Our laws must reflect that core belief,” wrote the leaders.



“This fight is not just about legal rights. It is about our brothers and sisters, our uncles and cousins, our neighbors and co-workers,” they continued. “It is about the strong families and communities which we ourselves cherish. Why should we rob others of the joys and blessings – and protections – of one of the most valued institutions in our society?”

A new Siena College Research poll suggests that while African Americans are settling in opposition to same-sex marriage, Latino support maybe increasing.
According to the poll, 44% of African-American voters support “making same sex marriages legal in New York State,” compared to 52% opposed, and 4% undecided. Last month, a Siena poll indicated that 46% of African-American voters supported making same-sex marriage legal, 45% opposed the possibility, and 9% were undecided.



Among Latinos in New York, the findings suggested that some formerly opposed voters have moved to an undecided position. In the new poll, 55% supported making same-sex marriage legal, 41% opposed it, and 4% were undecided. In April, the Siena survey found that 54% of Latino voters supported making same-sex marriage legal, 45% were opposed, and 1% were undecided.

Let's Have A Roast For The Douchebags

If  laughter is the best medicine, President Obama offered up a mouthful at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, deliciously ripping on Donald Trump and the birthers. The cherry on the sundae is Trump is in the audience while Obama throws enough shade to block out the sun. And all ol' Oompa Loompa can do is sit there and pretend to laugh along while looking like the giant tool that he is. Watch below.

Donald Trump And The Birthers: A Mini-Rant

Being that other bloggers have summed up much of my feelings about Donald Trump and the whole birther controversy, I'll keep this short and sweet (hence the title).

1) Although it is understandable that President Obama would show his long form birth certificate, the act will not quiet the birthers (to be fair the Democrats had their own crazies in the form of the 9/11 truthers, although I don't recall John Kerry attempting to use that as a legitimate platform in his campaign). The reason being is that they are not interested in anything remotely resembling the truth or actually finding it, but only in having their own prejudices and delusional suspicions confirmed. So fuck them.

2) Donald Trump probably doesn't give two shits whether or not the president was actually born in the United States. He only cares about what will serve him best in his supposed presidential run, and latching on to the birther theory was the best way to both align himself with the Republicans' racist, basket case power base and get the necessary media attention he craves like fiends need freebase. His blatant disrespect of the president by hammering him on a long-disproven fringe theory (and is now attempting to cast doubt over his educational background) is only matched by his ass-backwards arrogance in claiming "I have done a great service to the American people." So fuck him.

3) I try not to make generalizations, but anyone who still clings to the belief that President Obama is not an American citizen that is not certifiably insane is a fucking moron. And oh yeah, fuck you.

Donald Trump: "I Have A Great Relationship With The Blacks"

The Oompa Loompa has put his foot in his mouth again. While on a radio program, the potential presidential candidate *shudders at the thought* was mourning the black community's ardent support of President Obama.

"I have a great relationship with the blacks," Trump told Albany's Talk Radio 1300 Thursday. "I've always had a great relationship with the blacks."  Trump's comments were sparked by a recent poll of New York voters that stated 95 percent of black voters approve of the president's performance. The poll results also stated his approval in New York stands at 54 percent.
 
"Look at Hillary Clinton," the reality television star continued in reference to the 2008 Democratic presidential primary race. "Hillary Clinton did so much for the black population, so much and got very few votes."

"Look, I tell it like it is," he added. "Then you hear a political reporter go on and say, 'It had nothing to do with race.' But how come she got such a tiny piece of the vote. It's a very sad thing."

Lawd Donald, where do I start. First of all "the blacks?" Really? I wouldn't call that remark racist (after all, many divas have said the gays on more than one occasion) but it does come off as condescending, not to mention presumptuous. It also implies that you think of black people as a monolithic mass lacking critical thinking skills. Like if Barack Obama suddenly evaporated tomorrow, all black folks would say "Lawd, our black messiah dun disappeared! Who's we gon' vote fah now? Donald's tan enough! D-Trump for President!"  Secondly, black folks were pretty split over Hilary and Barack back in '08, at least until Bill Clinton blew it by opening his mouth during the primaries. I mean you'd have to living under a rock (or that wasps' nest you call hair) to not have seen at least one of those "which candidate will black voters back" debates.

Lastly, I find it highly ironic that man who so wants the support of "the blacks" engages in blatant Birther-style race-baiting, challenging the validity of president's birth certificate and insinuating that there's some deep dark secret about his past that he doesn't want the public (i.e white folks) to know. Even after said controversy has been laid to rest, and even though it never should've existed in the first place, since NO other U.S. president's American status has ever been in question. Hmmmm, I wonder why President Obama faced such scrutiny?

At this rate, Tina Fey and Will Ferrell (I think he could pull Trump the best as far as appearance goes....any other suggestions?) will have plenty of material for SNL's 2012 season.

Like Children For Chocolate

It seems that blood diamonds aren't the only import that comes at a human cost. Filmmaker U. Roberto Romano's documentary The Dark Side Of Chocolate, investigates human trafficking as it relates to child labor and cocoa fields around the Ivory Coast.

"The International Labour Organization estimates between 56 and 72 million African children work in agriculture, many in their own family farms.," according to CNN.com. The seven largest cocoa-producing countries are Indonesia, Nigeria, Cameron, Brazil, Ecuador, the Ivory Coast and Ghana. Those last two together account for nearly 60 percent of global cocoa production."


Romano said consumers should buy direct or fair trade chocolate products that would give them a voice in how cocoa farmers are treated.

"I'd like you to buy either a fair trade chocolate or a direct trade chocolate. I'd like you to buy something where you, as a consumer, can vote responsibly for better treatment of these farmers. And also with fair trade, you know that they're going to be at least on the road to being paid a decent wage. And with the inspections that go on, you know that their children aren't working and are getting an education."

With the disturbing trend of LGBT youth suicides, having the president take such an elegant but still forceful stance against bullying is a beautiful thing to see. With the end of summer(and hopefully this hellacious heat) upon us, I thought it'd be a good time for some random thoughts.

1. Wasn't Sunday's episode of True Blood a beast? I mean you had fights, hot gay sex scenes (Eric and the Mississippi queen's lover) hot straight sex scenes (Sookie and Bill were goin' at it!) the death of Loraina (She was fabulous but that chick had to die....I mean when would she realize that Bill doesn't want you gurl?) and my gurl Pam's bitchy wit.
2. Aren't you glad that the BP well is finally closed?
3. And aren't you hoping (as a Louisiana resident I am) that the company doesn't just cut and run, or even worse, try to drill there again in the future?
4. Is Lauryn Hill actually going to come out, see her shadow and make a new album? And why do we all still care so much?
5. I can't lie, I'm a little disappointed in my girl Alicia Keys. I mean I know relationships and love are complicated, but I just never pictured Alicia as a home wrecker. Hopefully Swizz Beats, her and the baby will be happy though.

Rants and Raves: The "Ground Zero Mosque" Controversy

It's been a while since I've done a rant and rave post, and I figure this is as good a topic as any. By now I'm sure everyone has heard about the controversy surrounding a Muslim group's decision to build a mosque and community center near Ground Zero, a.k.a where the Twin Towers were hit and destroyed on September 11, 2001. Now I can understand why people would be emotional over the building's location, but this is getting ridiculous.

Of course you have the typical knee-jerk reactions from the usual suspects such as Sarah Palin, who tweeted nonsense that building the mosque would "stab Americans in the heart" and asking peaceful Muslims to "please refudiate." Refudiate Sarah? Really? Are we making up words now? Then she had the nerve to compare herself to Shakespeare. I'm sorry but if this woman gets elected president or vice president in 2012, the only silver lining will be to watch Tina Fey making fun of her every moronic move on SNL for the next four years. But I digress.

Back to the mosque. People are talking like it's just the first step of a full-on Taliban takeover led by Osama Bin Ladin and the ghost of Saddam Hussein! First of all, the people who attacked us on 9-11 do not represent all Muslims. They were radical extremists. If some whack-job fundamentalist Christian blew up an abortion clinic tomorrow I'm sure no one would freak out if a church was built down the street. Because most Americans know that behavior does not represent all Christians. But when it comes to Isalm(or any other non-Christian religion) people suddenly get stupid.

Second of all, Muslims building a mosque near Ground Zero is not the same as the Japanese building Buddhist or Shinto shrines at the site of Pearl Harbor(yes people are really saying this-check the comments at MSNBC.com.) The attack on Pearl Harbor had nothing to do with a religion or radical extremists. It was a military action, pure and simple. Should we get rid of every Italian, Japanese or German restaurant as well? Besides, if we follow this line of thinking, every Native American should protest the building of every Christian church they see, since the followers of that religion were responsible for taking their land and pretty much destroying their entire way of life, all in the name of Manifest Destiny. Oh how quickly we forget.

Another idiot statement made by the opposition is that the mosque symbolizes Islamic extremists' "victory" over America, and that by placing it near Ground Zero we'd be allowing the terrorists to win, when in reality the exact opposite is true. Labeling all Muslims as extremists, saying no mosque should built near Ground or anywhere else in America and any other sorts of bigoted statements only makes the terrorists' viewpoint-that Americans think we're superior to everyone else, that we're intolerant of other religions, that we want to impose our way of life on everyone else--true. Not allowing the mosque to be built would send the message that America is anti-Muslim, and would contradict the values of freedom of religion and democracy. Now I'm babbling but you get the point: building a mosque near Ground Zero is not anti-American. Denying people the right to practice their religion based on the actions of a few radicals is.

When You Assume....

You know the rest. By now I'm sure you aware of the whole Shirley Sherrod, NAACP-USDA controversy. If not let me summarize and bring you up to speed-Sherrod, an official for the Agricultural Department, was asked to resign by the Department of Agriculture when a video posted by conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart surfaced of her giving a speech at an NAACP function. In the video Sherrod discussed not giving a white farmer "the full force of what I could do" to help him save his farm from foreclosure. This was followed by condemnation from the NAACP, while conservative blogs held the tape up as proof that the NAACP was racist.

However, if everyone had just taken a second to look at the whole unedited video and not be in such a rush to condemn, maybe this woman would still have her job. Sherrod went on to say that she recognized she had prejudices of her own, and she needed to overcome them in order to be a better person(those weren't the exact words, but that was her general point). In addition the white farmer she helped was interviewed and said he wouldn't still have his farm if if wasn't for Sherrod. Now the NAACP and the government look like damn fools for jumping to conclusions too soon.

Breitbart said he posted to video in response to the NAACP's accusations of racism within the Tea Party and that this wasn't about Sherrod. Sure it wasn't. That's why you posted an edited clip you got in an e-mail without verifying it and took this woman's words out of context, making her speech seem like a racist rant instead of a lesson in overcoming one's own prejudices. And now other conservatives like Ann Coulter are saying that Breitbart, not Sherrod, is the victim in this whole mess. Unbelievable.

This whole controversy shows how easily the media can be manipulated into a frenzy when facts are not thoroughly checked. It also reveals how easily we as a society jump up and down and cry racism, or accept that a racist act or statement has been made, be it from a black or white person., without knowing the whole story. While I understand the NAACP and the USDA didn't want to be tied to anything resembling racism, it wouldn't hurt to do a little more background checking first. And even though both have since apologized, I'm sure Ms. Sherrod wouldn't mind if a paycheck came along with it:).

Religious Leaders Speak Out Against Anti-Gay Uganda Law

Several Anglican church leaders have spoken out against the extreme anti-gay legislation in Uganda, which would sentence gays to death or life imprisonment for committing "aggravated homosexuality.

Archbishop of York John Sentamu - who along with the archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, is one of the global fellowship's most senior priests - condemned the anti-gay law now being considered by the East African nation's parliament.

"I'm opposed to the death sentence. I'm also not happy when you describe people in the kind of language you find in this ... bill," he told BBC radio.

Although Sentamu seemed to suggest he was the first to attack the proposed law, Williams has also spoken out against it, telling The Daily Telegraph earlier this month that it was "shocking in its severity."

"Apart from invoking the death penalty, it makes pastoral care impossible - it seeks to turn pastors into informers," he told the paper in an interview published Dec. 12.

Homosexuality has been an explosive and divisive topic for the church, leading to splits in the United States Episcopal Church over the issue. African churches have been leading the charge in a backlash against blessings of gay unions and the ordination of gay clergy, such as the 2003 ordination of Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop.

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni will not try to block the bill, his spokesman Tamale Mirundi said Thursday, although he did say the president would attempt to convince his National Resistance Movement Party, which has a majority in parliament, to not support it.

"President Museveni cannot block the anti-gays bill," Mirundi said, saying that if he did so "he will have become a dictator."

Mirundi added that Museveni does not support homosexuality but thinks the bill goes too far.

"He believes that we should not have an extreme position," he said. "We have to consider the position of our foreign partners. For them they don't mind about homosexuality in their countries but here many people don't accept it."

See, sista Earnestine Copeland testified before the Washington D.C. council on her opposition to a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the District of Columbia.
